For drilling ceramic tiles, glass, marble, slate and porcelain tiles up to hardness grade 5. For use with conventional power drills.
These Diamond Dust hole saws or cutters, are designed to cut through very hard man made products, such as Porcelain and Ceramic tiles. One Diamond Dust Hole cutter should cut approximately 10 to 20 holes, provide that you follow these simply rules.
How to drill a hole in porcelain and ceramic tiles using a diamond dust hole cutter
- Use a battery drill on low speed without hammer action.
- There is no centre drill bit, and that's no problem with bits from 4mm to 16mm after this size, I recommend using a drilling guide made from MDF or ply.
- Use cold water to stop the build up of heat whilst drilling, a drinks bottle with a small hole drilled in the cap is ideal for this.
- If you can, try and drill the hole in the tile before you fit it, because the water stays around the drill bit, so the mess is contained and the drill bit remains cold and lubricated.
- Avoid drilling dry, as this will reduce the diamond dust life span by over three quarters.
- Apply light even pressure and let the drill do the work.
- A 8mm thick porcelain tile will take about 2 - 4 minutes to drill a 32mm hole.
- A standard white ceramic tile will take about 1 Minute for the same size hole. Based on white clay.
- Number of holes in a clay based tile is 20-30 holes per cutter
- Number of holes in a porcelain tile is 8-15 depending on grade of porcelain and thickness.
- The number of holes per cutter is a guide based on my own experience using these cutters on my own bathroom.
